Where do you use it?
Faux Tan is suggested for use on the body, though some users will also mix some of the lotion/gel with their daily moisturizer for the face.
How does it work?
Self tanners use a chemical reaction to stain the top layers of your skin. This is why the color will stay for three to five days, but after that the skin that was stained by the product has been sloughed off of your body.
Who is the product good for?
Anyone afraid of self tanner, or who wants one of the best products on the market will enjoy Faux Tan.
How do you use it?
This lotion/gel self tanner should be smoothed over exfoliated and moisturized skin. Any skin it touches will be tinted with the bronze coloring it provides though so take care when applying near wrists, hands, ankles, and feet to ensure you have a natural looking tan line. It can be applied with a brush or mitt to avoid staining your palms and fingertips.
Personal Experience
My heritage is what I fondly refer to as a Heinz 57 from Europe. This means I’m pale. This also means that I do not tan. I think it happened once many moons ago, but I have no photographic evidence. This also means that self-tanners look either orangey or downright fake on my skin. So, with hesitancy I tried the Bare Escentuals Faux Tan after a close friend said I would love it. It was worth the try and is still worth the cost of admission because it is easy to apply, does not rub off on my clothing after the first hour or so of letting it dry down into my skin, and looks natural. I often hear “wow, you look nice today” when I’ve Faux Tanned because it is not a “woah, you put on tanner” look, it is more of a natural glow that looks right on my skin. Even though I am super pale, having the warm look of a tan feels amazing during the spring and summer when I frequently wear capris and tank tops.
One word of advice though, make sure to follow some important tips for applying self tanner to avoid mistakes and messes. And most of all, ask for help to reach your back and other hard-to-get areas so you do not end up looking blotchy. You’ll thank me for it. Take this self tan review to heart and take a chance, even if you are the palest of the pale, because this is the best self tan lotion around.
